Empires & Puzzles is a free-to-play mobile role-playing game (RPG) that combines match-3 puzzle mechanics with empire-building and hero-collecting elements developed by Small Giant Games. Players construct and expand a base, recruit and train heroes, and engage in battles against AI enemies or other players in PvP (Player vs. Player).

Empires & Puzzles features a vibrant world with colourful graphics and a variety of heroes that have distinct abilities and classes. The game has regular content updates, keeping things fresh and exciting. Mooncolony has had the pleasure of designing several stylised characters for Empires & Puzzles, from deadly assassins, demons and powerful mages to friendly folklore creatures.

During the character design process, our character artists will explore different variations from the brief, sketching to refine the character's appearance. Every element you see in the final illustration is carefully considered to help define the character's uniqueness. These details include the colour palette, facial expression, pose, costume, hairstyle and even the smallest accessories. When there isn’t much detail given about a character in-game, it’s important that their character design conveys their background, emotions, personality traits and motivations visually.

It's always a pleasure to work on cool projects like Empires and Puzzles. Creating different characters, making them unique, and showing their story is very exciting! Some heroes are inspired by myths and legends of different nations, it's so great that I have a chance to present them in a new way. Each new hero is a small challenge for the artist and I accept it with great joy!
